Provincial health records indicate that colorectal and lung cancer incidence rates in these zones run 22 percent above the New Brunswick average, yet sample collection infrastructure for hypothesis-driven studies remains limited to two courier routes per week.

The grant mechanism supplies direct-cost awards of up to $275,000 over three years, sufficient to cover one postdoctoral stipend, sequencing reagents, and modest travel to the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute core facility in Moncton.
